Commissioned by George Lucas for the University of Southern California, Fairbanks stands atop a fountain in the entry courtyard of the new film school complex. He carries a fencing foil and holds aloft a screenplay. The legend goes that Fairbanks and the president of USC were fencing when Fairbanks suggested the university teach film. Fairbanks taught the first course, screenwriting.
